Microlagal Biorefineries: scaling, deployment and efficiency improvements

摘要:

Extracting value from microalgal based biorefineries allows sustainable growth and carbon capture sequestration and utilization, whilst delivering protein, carbohydrates, lipids and high value products that can feed into animal and fish feed, human nutrition, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products, as well as materials such as bioplastics. Commercialisation is hindered by scaling problems which results in complex exploitation pathways, particularly for lower value commodity products. Work at the University of Glasgow will be described that has investigated growth optimisation, lysing mechanisms, separation and downstream processing, with current work seeking to address scaling and deployment problems. Experiences learned from sensor development, control, AI and ML from thermochemical processes and microalgal systems are being translated into microalgal based biorefineries.

伊恩·沃森博士(Dr. Ian Watson)是格拉斯哥上海五星体育University of Glasgow詹姆斯·瓦特工程上海五星体育James Watt School of Engineering应用能源项目设置的副高级教练。他的社区领域为微藻工程,致力于利用热化学技术将微藻转化为高附加值产品,尤其是生物油等能源物质,以及液化反应后产物的经济高效分离等复杂工程问题的解决。
